A guided path through the complete research process
ESMP is an intensive eight-week mentorship for learning systematic review and meta-analysis through the decisions, outputs, and challenges of a real project.
Eight-week structure
One project, developed stage by stage
The curriculum follows the research workflow from question formulation and feasibility through searching, appraisal, analysis, writing, and submission preparation. Each week builds on the work produced before it.

The weekly rhythm
Teach, apply, review, and continue
ESMP is designed as a continuous learning cycle rather than a sequence of disconnected classes.
Weekend
01
Live teaching
Methods are introduced, demonstrated, and discussed in live weekend sessions, with time for questions and project-specific clarification.
Weekdays

Practical application
Participants apply the weekend teaching to the real review project, turning concepts into documented research decisions and outputs.

Personalized mentorship
Continuous guidance connects teaching with project work and responds to the methodological needs of the participant and project.
Real project-based learning
The project is where the learning becomes durable
A feasible research topic is provided at the beginning of the mentorship. Participants still learn how to assess its novelty and feasibility, then apply each subsequent method directly to that real review rather than to disconnected examples.
Personalized guidance
The same method can create different questions in different reviews. Mentorship responds to those project-specific decisions.
Feedback is not limited to whether a task is complete. It helps participants understand why a choice is methodologically sound, what should be documented, and how the decision affects the next stage of the review.
Ethical authorship
Contribution determines authorship
Participation alone does not establish authorship. The policy is based on recognized authorship criteria and the work each contributor actually performs.

Authorship is based on the ICMJE authorship criteria and each person's actual contribution.

The mentee who contributes most substantially may be eligible for first authorship.
- 03
The mentor is expected to serve as senior or last author when the relevant authorship criteria are met.
Beyond the structured eight weeks
Support follows the project, not just the calendar
Journal decisions and manuscript revisions may arrive well after the teaching phase. ESMP separates this later support from the eight-week curriculum while keeping the path connected.
Journal revision support
- Understanding editor and reviewer comments
- Preparing a point-by-point response letter
- Revising the manuscript in response to reviewer feedback
- Guidance for resubmission after a journal decision
Extended mentorship
- Continued guidance after the structured program
- Assistance with analysis, interpretation, and manuscript-related questions
- Peer-based community support and future research collaborations
Publication is not guaranteed. Editorial and publication decisions remain with the journal; the program provides methodological, writing, submission, and revision guidance.
